Industry Development and Scale of Environmental Protection Equipment

According to estimates by relevant industry associations, since the commencement of the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the total output value of my country's environmental protection equipment manufacturing industry has achieved a compound annual growth rate of nearly 6%, reaching 920 billion yuan in 2024. In 2024, the export delivery value of the domestic environmental protection equipment manufacturing sector grew by 1.8% year-on-year, reaching 39.2 billion yuan, reflecting a continuous enhancement of its international influence and competitiveness.

 

High-quality enterprises are constantly emerging within the industry; a cohort of leading enterprises with annual revenues in the tens of billions has taken shape, and 358 enterprises meeting the industry's "normative conditions" for environmental protection equipment manufacturing have been cultivated (as of 2025). Major sub-sectors include air pollution control, wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring instrumentation, and solid waste treatment equipment.

 

The industry exhibits a pattern of regional agglomeration characterized by a "One Belt, One Axis" structure. Over 70% of large-scale environmental protection equipment manufacturing enterprises are concentrated along coastal economic belts-specifically in the Circum-Bohai Sea, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta regions-as well as in provinces and municipalities situated along the Yangtze River, with the Yangtze River Economic Belt serving as the central axis. Notably, the four provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Guangdong collectively account for nearly 60% of the industry's total operating revenue.

 

In accordance with the *Guiding Opinions on Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Environmental Protection Equipment Manufacturing Industry*, the sector has established a set of phased development objectives: by 2027, the market share of advanced technical equipment is targeted to increase significantly, and the "weak links" within the technical equipment supply chains of key sectors are expected to be substantially addressed. By 2030, the goal is to achieve independent control over the entire supply chain for environmental protection technical equipment, thereby driving a comprehensive industry upgrade-transitioning from traditional pollution control toward a model of green, low-carbon, and circular development.
